My mother-in-law was visiting, and after she left, the dog started growling and scratching the ground. I began digging where the dog had been barking and found something terrible

My husband and I live in a village, quiet and peaceful. He works on a farm, and I stay at home, taking care of the garden and household.

My mother-in-law lives in the city with her younger son—and honestly, our relationship has never been good. From day one, she never accepted me. Sometimes with a judging look, sometimes with sarcastic comments. But I tolerated it—for my husband’s sake. Besides, the distance helped; we saw her rarely.

But recently, she suddenly announced that she wanted to “take a break from the city hustle” and came to stay with us for a week. She said she missed us. I knew it wouldn’t end well and last long, but again—my husband insisted.

From the very first days, she started lecturing me on how to live. Everything was wrong: the soup was too salty, the curtains weren’t ironed, and, in her opinion, I was raising our five-year-old daughter completely incorrectly. She constantly provoked quarrels and at some point even found a way to drive a wedge between my husband and me. I couldn’t take it and cried at night. I just wanted it all to be over as soon as possible.

When she finally left, I breathed a sigh of relief. But the very next day, something strange started happening.

Our dog, Bucks, a kind and smart dog, suddenly began acting aggressively. He growled at the empty garden, ran in circles, then started scratching the earth near one of the garden beds, barking, digging with his paws. I tried to take him away—he wouldn’t listen. He looked at me and continued his strange behavior.

The next day he kept it up. I couldn’t stand it—I went to get a shovel. My heart was pounding: a dog can’t just dig and growl like that for no reason. Something was scaring him. I started digging where he had been barking.

And then the earth collapsed. I froze. Sticking out of the ground was… 😱

Sticking out of the ground was… a black bag. Tied up. With my heart pounding, I pulled it out.

Inside — a terrible smell and strange objects: clumps of hair, an old child’s dress (not my daughter’s!), a doll with a broken head, and also a bundle of photographs showing me, my husband, and our daughter… with their eyes scratched out.

A cold chill ran through my body. I realized this was something magical, possibly a curse. Who could have done this?

There was only one answer — my mother-in-law. She was the only one in our yard; only she could have dug the hole while I was cooking in the kitchen or with the child.

I didn’t know what to do. I took the find to the church. The priest said it was “a curse aimed at destroying the family.”

I don’t believe in such things, but what happened to our dog, and everything my mother-in-law said and did in the last few days… it all formed one terrifying picture.

Since then, I have forbidden her from coming to our home. I told my husband everything. At first, he didn’t believe me, but then he saw the photos and the bag I kept as proof. He was silent for a long time.

And since then, the dog only sleeps by the door, as if guarding us.

I don’t know exactly what my mother-in-law wanted to do, but I’m sure of one thing: she will never cross the threshold of our home again.

What do you think? Am I overdramatizing? Or could it be something else?
