For several weeks, the neighbors had been hearing strange noises coming from the home of an elderly man, and when they finally broke down the door and entered the apartment, they were horrified by what they saw

On a quiet street where everyone knew each other by name, there was one man who stood out — an elderly man named Viktor. He rarely spoke to anyone, seldom left his apartment, and no one knew for sure what he did or how he made a living.

But one thing everyone knew for certain — strange sounds were constantly coming from his home. Sometimes it was a dull growling, as if someone was scratching at the walls. Other times, it was a shriek, like a scream — but not quite human.

Nights were especially hard: whimpering, exhausting yelping, echoing day after day. At times, it sounded as if someone inside was having a hysterical breakdown.

At first, the neighbors tolerated it. Then they began approaching his door, knocking, and asking him to keep it down. Someone even left a note:

“Please take care of the noise. None of us can sleep at night.”

But there was no response. Viktor didn’t always open the door, and when he did go out, he would just nod, mutter something unintelligible, and disappear again behind his door.

Over time, concern grew. Some neighbors were sure he was going insane. Others suspected that he wasn’t living alone. A few even speculated that something illegal was going on. But no one knew the truth.

Then one day, everything changed.
For almost a week, no one had seen the old man. His door remained locked, and his windows were covered, as usual. But the noises hadn’t stopped.

On the contrary — they had become even louder. At night, there were angry squeals, teeth gnashing, scratching on the floor, scraping sounds. It was as if someone — or something — was trying to get out.

On the seventh day, the residents had had enough. Two men went up to his floor and started knocking persistently. No one answered. They called the police, who broke the lock and finally opened the door.

What they saw inside made their blood run cold 😱😱
Inside the apartment were…

In the room, heavy with a stale, suffocating smell, Viktor lay dead on the bed. According to the investigator’s report, he had been dead for about a week. But that was not the worst part.

Almost two dozen dogs were inside the apartment — thin, emaciated, some barely alive. They roamed the rooms, and a few lay close to Viktor’s body, refusing to leave his side.

The floor was marked with claw scratches, feces, torn-up furniture, and signs of fights between the animals.

It seemed the old man had been collecting stray dogs — hiding them, feeding them, sleeping beside them. They were his only friends. He never told anyone about them because he was afraid they would be taken away.

For seven days, these dogs had been locked inside without food or water.

The neighbors spoke of the incident for a long time afterward, their voices trembling. And the house remained empty ever since — as if it itself refused to forget its terrible secret.
