I saw my husband coming out of the clinic with two babies I had never seen before.

That morning, my trembling hands held a pregnancy test: two pink lines. Pregnant. Again.

The birth of a child is, of course, a blessing… but the joy quickly turned into fear. We were already struggling to make ends meet. Mark, my husband, worked as a janitor. I was a nanny. Our son Leo was seven years old. And now — another baby…

I didn’t have the courage to tell him. He already looked utterly exhausted.

Later, as I waited for the doctor at the clinic, I glanced out the window — and my heart stopped.
Mark.

But this wasn’t the Mark I had left that morning. This one was dressed in black designer clothes, and in his arms… were two newborns. 😯

He got into a luxury car and didn’t notice me.

Who were those babies? Why was he here?

Questions raced through my mind until he disappeared from view.

In shock, I rushed to the maternity ward…

And what I discovered there made my blood run cold. 😯

There was a beautiful woman packing baby clothes into a designer bag.

“Can I help you?” she asked.

“I’m Nora. I’m looking for my husband. Mark. I just saw him leave with two babies. Are they yours?”

Her eyes widened.

“Your husband? Mark told me he was divorced!”

I told her everything — about our nine years of marriage, our son, my pregnancy.
Her name was Lauren. She believed Mark was a wealthy investor. She lived in a luxurious mansion.

We went to her home. In the nursery, Mark was rocking one of the twins. When he saw us, he turned pale.

“I can explain,” he said.

He confessed that he had inherited $300,000 and hadn’t told anyone. He wanted “a different life,” so he created a new identity and was living a double life.

Lauren and I were furious. We kicked him out.

A week later, I filed for divorce. Lauren forbade Mark from coming near her children. I did the same.

And then, to my surprise, Lauren offered me a job as a nanny. She gave me housing, a good salary, and respect.

Three months later, I gave birth to a daughter.
The house was modest, but it was filled with laughter and peace.

Mark disappeared.
But I rebuilt my life. And at last, I was free.
