The elementary school teacher always strived to help her pupils grow up curious, courageous, and full of hopes for the future. One day, she came up with an idea: to host a Career Day at the school — inviting professionals from various fields to share their work experiences with the children.
In the auditorium, the visitors assembled: a physician, a seasoned attorney, a young software developer, a robust firefighter, and lastly — a police officer with his service dog named Ralf. The children were thrilled — they asked questions, laughed, tried on helmets, and listened attentively.
When it was the officer and Ralf’s turn to step forward, the room erupted in applause. But as soon as Ralf entered the classroom, the cheerful atmosphere shifted. The dog growled, raised his head — then began barking loudly, fixating his gaze on the teacher. Moments later, he lunged toward her, stood up on his hind legs, and pressed his muzzle against her chest, continuing to bark.
The children were scared. The teacher turned pale and recoiled, shielding herself with her arms.
— He never behaves like this! — the officer exclaimed, bewildered. — I’m sorry, I don’t understand… He’s trained, he’s not aggressive!
They managed to restrain the dog. The teacher fought back tears.
— Maybe it’s just my scent… perhaps perfume… — she attempted to explain.

His doubts deepened. That evening, the officer conducted a background check on the teacher — and uncovered something disturbing: her passport had been issued only seven years prior, and certain details about her birthplace and former name didn’t match up.
An investigation was launched — and soon the truth emerged. The teacher had actually been involved in an armed bank robbery fifteen years ago. She had fled, forged new documents, and vanished.
Two of her accomplices were apprehended, and it was believed she perished in a fire. Throughout all this time, she had altered her appearance, relocated to a different region, and started a new life — working as a respected educator.
But the scent… that’s what exposed her. Ralf possessed a keen sense of smell for individuals previously involved in serious crimes — having worked on criminal cases before, his memory hadn’t forgotten that old trail.
