During her son’s funeral, a mother suddenly grabbed an axe and struck the coffin lid again and again.
When the wood finally split apart, the mourners discovered something horrifying…
— I’m not going to that funeral. That is not my son.

— Mom, what are you saying? This is your son’s funeral… my husband’s funeral. How can you refuse to come?
— You don’t understand. My son is not inside that coffin. We are being lied to… Someone is trying to hide the truth from us.
— But you saw the official documents. They explained that his face was impossible to identify after the accident. Even the DNA test confirmed it was him.
— It isn’t him. I can feel it deep inside me.
— Your grief is making you say these things. You simply cannot accept that he is gone.
— My son is alive. And stop speaking about him as though he were dead.
Despite endless pleading and hours of discussion, the mother refused to change her mind. Yet several hours later, she finally agreed to attend the funeral.
She firmly refused to wear black and arrived in a bright blue coat. In her hands, she tightly gripped a large, heavy, dark-colored bag, never letting it out of her sight. Her daughter-in-law chose not to ask what was inside. All that mattered was that she had come.
That day, the sky hung low and gray above the cemetery. Thick clouds appeared to hover just above the treetops.
When the ceremony began and the cemetery workers prepared to seal the coffin lid permanently, the mother suddenly stepped forward. Her face was deathly pale.
She placed the heavy bag on the ground.
Then she pulled out an axe.
Before anyone could understand what she intended to do, she raised it high above her head and brought it down with tremendous force onto the coffin.

A sharp crack echoed through the cemetery. Splinters of wood flew in every direction.
One blow.
Then another.
As the horrified mourners watched, the coffin split almost completely in half.
An unnatural silence descended over the cemetery.
Some people covered their mouths in shock, while others instinctively stepped backward. Even the priest lowered his gaze, as though wishing he could disappear.
Then a scream suddenly shattered the silence:
— Look… The coffin is empty!
And at that very moment, a terrifying truth was revealed…
Panic erupted immediately. Several men rushed toward the gravediggers, demanding an explanation, while someone had already begun calling the police. Pale as a ghost, the daughter-in-law dropped her handbag at her feet.
The mother remained standing beside the shattered coffin. Her breathing was heavy, and she gripped the axe handle so tightly that her knuckles had turned white.
— I told you, she murmured in a calm but clearly audible voice. My son is not here.
At that moment, a thin man wearing a cemetery guard’s uniform pushed his way through the crowd. He hesitated for several seconds before finally gathering the courage to speak.
— The body… was taken during the night. Two people came here. They had official papers and said it needed to be transferred to a morgue in another city for further examination. I… I had no idea anything was wrong…

His words sent a chill through everyone present. Where had the body been taken? And more importantly, who were those mysterious people?
The police arrived quickly and immediately began questioning the witnesses. But the most disturbing discovery came a little later: the morgue records contained no evidence that any transfer had ever taken place.
Instead of the son’s name, there was a strange entry:
“Disposal — administrative error.”
It could mean only one thing.
Someone had deliberately tried to erase every trace of his existence after his death… unless his death itself had been completely staged.
The mother slowly sat down on a nearby bench, holding a splinter from the broken coffin lid between her fingers. There was no longer any despair in her eyes.
Only cold determination.
She was certain of one thing: if her son was still alive, she would find him. And if he was truly dead, she would find those who had tried to rob him even of the right to rest in peace.
