The wife and her lover decided to eliminate her husband so they could seize his massive fortune. They bound him, secured a heavy anchor to his legs, and tossed him into the open sea. Then they stood on the yacht’s deck laughing, never imagining how their vicious plan would ultimately end.
Daniel was thirty-eight when he first met Sofia. By then, he had already built a successful construction business, owned several properties, and possessed a large yacht where he spent nearly every weekend.
Sofia was twelve years younger than Daniel. During the first few years of their marriage, everything appeared perfect. She repeatedly insisted that she had no interest in his wealth, and Daniel genuinely believed her.
But four years later, things began to change.
Sofia met Mark, a personal trainer at an upscale fitness club she visited several times a week. At first, their relationship was innocent and consisted only of casual conversations. Before long, however, they started seeing each other behind Daniel’s back.
Several months into their affair, Mark asked her:
— Why don’t you just divorce him?
Sofia gave him a sarcastic smile.
— Because then I wouldn’t get nearly as much as I want.
That was the moment their horrifying scheme began to take shape.
Sofia knew that Daniel frequently sailed his yacht far from the coastline. If he vanished during one of those trips, she believed no one would have any reason to suspect her.
For the next several weeks, Sofia carefully prepared everything. She even started behaving unusually kindly toward her husband, hoping to prevent him from becoming suspicious.
One morning, she suggested that the two of them spend the weekend alone aboard the yacht.
Daniel happily agreed.
Once they were far out at sea, Daniel suddenly noticed Mark standing on the deck.
— What is he doing here? — Daniel asked, clearly confused.
Sofia never got the chance to answer.
A security guard whom she had secretly paid beforehand came up behind Daniel. Daniel fought back, but the three of them quickly managed to overpower him.
They restrained his hands and forced him down onto his knees.
Only then did Daniel finally realize what was happening.
— Sofia, why are you doing this?
His wife stared at him without emotion.
— Because I’m done waiting.
Mark appeared carrying a thick chain and a massive anchor. He wrapped one end of the chain tightly around Daniel’s legs and secured it in place.
Daniel looked desperately at his wife, apparently hoping until the very last second that she would change her mind and stop them.
Sofia simply turned her face away.
A few minutes later, they dragged Daniel toward the edge of the yacht.
Mark threw the anchor into the ocean first. Then he and the security guard shoved Daniel overboard.
Sofia stepped toward the railing and looked down.
For several seconds, bubbles rose to the surface.
Then the water became completely still.
Mark wrapped his arms around Sofia.
— Now it all belongs to us.
They even opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
Convinced that they had won, they toasted their success without realizing that their brutal crime was about to lead to consequences neither of them could have imagined.
When Sofia arrived back at the marina, she told the police that her husband had consumed too much alcohol that evening, stepped onto the deck, and accidentally fallen into the sea.
Authorities searched for him for two days, but no body was ever recovered.
Sofia performed the part of a devastated widow flawlessly. At the memorial service, which was held without Daniel’s body, she sobbed so convincingly that even his closest friends ended up trying to comfort her.
However, there was one complication.
Several days later, Daniel’s attorney informed Sofia that she would not be able to inherit his assets right away. Daniel first had to be legally declared dead, and the official investigation needed to be completed.
Two days after that, police officers arrived at the mansion.
Sofia assumed they were there to ask routine follow-up questions. Instead, one of the detectives placed a photograph on the table in front of her.
It showed Daniel.
Alive.
The color immediately drained from Sofia’s face.
As it turned out, Daniel had years of diving experience and always kept a compact emergency kit aboard his yacht. After he was thrown overboard, he managed to loosen one of his legs before the anchor dragged him all the way down.
For several crucial seconds, the chain became snagged on a metal structure beneath the yacht’s hull, temporarily stopping his descent. That brief delay gave Daniel enough time to slip his leg out of the loosened loop.
But his real stroke of luck came afterward.
Using the last of his strength, Daniel managed to reach the surface far behind the yacht. By pure chance, two fishermen noticed him in the water and pulled him aboard their boat.
Daniel wanted to contact the police immediately, but the lead investigator convinced him to keep his survival secret for several days.
The authorities needed solid evidence.
Sofia unknowingly gave them exactly that.
Believing Daniel was dead, she began sending messages to Mark about selling the properties and moving the money. Investigators also discovered that Sofia had transferred a large amount of money to the security guard one day before the yacht trip.
But an even more damaging piece of evidence was still waiting to be uncovered.
There was a concealed security camera aboard the yacht that Sofia had no idea existed.
Daniel had installed it several months earlier after several valuable belongings disappeared from the vessel.
The camera had captured nearly everything.
When investigators showed Sofia the footage, she finally stopped denying what had happened.
Mark and the security guard were taken into custody later that same evening.
